Crowds of people held a demonstration atf Teignmouth on Sunday 25th September in protest over sewage being discharged into the sea by South West Water.

Protesters signed a giant post card, which will be delivered to South West Water.

The protest was organised by local councillors Martin Wrigley representing Dawlish and David Cox representing Teignmouth.

The protest follows recent sewage releases along the south-west coast. Beachgoers were warned last month not to swim in the water at Teignmouth and Dawlish beaches after heavy rain. Beaches at were also closed off after the sewage was released across the south-west.

Cllr Wrigley told the PRSD: “ We pay some of the highest water bills, yet have one of worst performing water companies in the country. We need serious action”.

Cllr Cox said: “We need legislative change and for the Environment Agency to have adequate funding and powers to hold the water companies to account.
